Spring Roadtrip - Tenterfield

We stopped for a night in Tenterfield on our way north from the Hunter.

Monday morning we hit up The Corner Store & Cafe for breakfast, coffee and googley eyed babycinos. I loved the interior of the eclectic cafe/homewares store/boutique. My favourite room was the old Yalumba Wine Library with its high ceilings, timber panels and red brick arches.

 

 

 

Then it was down to business...trains, tracks and turntables at the Historic Railway Museum, Tenterfield Station.

 

 

The boys spent a solid two hours exploring every nook and cranny with Harry exclaiming at intervals, "I can't BELIEVE they don't use this line anymore, there should be more trains, why don't they use this line? Why WHY??".

When my two little trainspotters had had their fill, we jumped in the car and continued north west, taking the quieter back roads between Warwick and Toowoomba. We stopped in the tiny town of Nobby for a break and to my delight discovered old Rudd's pub from Dad & Dave infamy.

 

 

 

I just had to snap the wheat fields on our way west of Toowoomba.

 

 

 

That night we met up with Mum at a place 20kms out of Miles called Possum Park. It was originally a top secret ammunition dump during World War 2 with 20 underground bunkers and troop trains. These days it's a quirky holiday park and the bunkers and train carriages have been converted into self contained accommodation. Much to the boys' delight Nana had organised for us to stay in one of the troop train carriages. It was a really great set up and the boys loved exploring.
