Liebster Award Nominations

Woohoo...I've been nominated for a Liebster Award by the beautiful Blair from Baby for Scale and Katrina from Young NASA Housewife Thanks Lovelies, this is going to be such fun!

The name Liebster comes from the German word meaning dearest and is given by bloggers to bloggers. The nominees are bloggers with fewer than 200 followers. No trophy or embossed certificate is bestowed, but it's recognition from fellow bloggers that they value your contributions. Plus it's an excellent way to make new friends, network and get your blog noticed!

The criteria for accepting the award is as follows:

  1. Thank your nominator by linking back to their blog
  2. Answer 10 questions posed by your nominator
  3. Nominate 5 or more bloggers, who have less than 200 followers, for the award
  4. Create 10 questions for your nominees to answer
  5. Notify your nominees!!

And so...to Blair's questions

1. What's your weirdest dream?

Eegads thats a hard one! I'm a very vivid dreamer and regularly have all kinds of weird and wonderful dreams. I had one re-occuring dream as a four year old that I had again as an adult so I'll pick that one.

I was flying over a wheat field that stretched out forever in every direction and the horizon kept rolling away. The sky was technicolour rainbow with dark grey clouds closing in and the wheat had an odd lime green glow. I have trouble remembering much more after that, other than talking scarecrows, blackbirds and the sensation that I was still flying long after I'd woken up.

Please note that as a four year old in 1981, lime green bedroom walls were still the height of fashion and must claim responsibility for kickstarting the whole thing.

2. Are you a bad winner or loser?

Umm...can I say that most of the time I'm neither? Except for when my husband beats me (and everyone else he plays) at Scrabble. He's such an ungracious winner and crows so triumphantly that it makes me desperately want to kick his ass at the wretched game. I'm yet to win.

3. Where do you write for your blog?

Usually curled up in an armchair by the window with a mug of hot tea, my legs over one arm of the chair and my iPad in my lap. It's a slower process than tapping it out at the table using my wireless keyboard but I'm not usually in a rush to knock it over, I enjoy taking my time.

4. What superpower do you want?

The power to fly...please refer to my four year old trippy dreams.

5. If money were no question, what would you buy?

A beautiful Georgian manor in the beautiful British countryside.

6. Where is your "happy place"?

Physically - whenever I'm handmaking things be it jewellery, sewing or in the kitchen.

Mentally - in my dream kitchen in my Georgian house in the beautiful British countryside. Refer to the picture below which I have on my cork board.

7. What's your guilty pleasure?

Watching every episode of As Time Goes By while drinking tea and eating cumquat marmalade on toast...I know, I'm such a nana!

But c'mon...Judi Dench, Geoffery Palmer & London...it's the perfect mix!

8. What's the worst piece of advice you've ever been given?

Give your child a good smack when they're naughty.

I won't wax lyrical on my soapbox about this topic. My opinion is that I find a great deal of hypocrisy in the act of smacking a child. Particularly in situations when a child is being smacked for hitting another child. Do as I say, not as I do? To me, the only thing that smacking teaches is that you should hit someone when they aren't doing what you want them to do. Needless to say, I didn't take heed of that particular piece of advice.

9. What is your favorite book?

I have two and one is just as wonderful as the other:

Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice and Oh the Places You'll Go by Dr Seuss

10. Who would you trade places with for a day?

Hmmmm...I always get stumped on this one.

Probably Peter Jackson's personal assistant during filming of the Hobbit, particularly the scenes where the dwarves were dining at Bag End. I'm good at making tea and oh lordy, the things I'd have seen, the people I'd have met!!!

(Nerd alert...that's ok, I'm cool with that!).

On to Katrina's questions...

1. What have you enjoyed most about blogging?

Capturing my world in picture and print, connecting with such an awesome blogging community and making some fabulous friends.

2. Where is your favorite place to travel?

I haven't travelled extensively but I do love Tasmania and New York.

Tassie for its beauty, incredible food, colonial architecture and history.

New York for its vibrancy in the city and its natural beauty upstate.

3. Are you an introvert or extrovert?

Extrovert...social lil butterfly am I.

4. What is the most difficult thing you have undergone this year?

Fighting this insidious beast called cancer. I look back on the past eight months and shake my head in disbelief, somehow I've managed to get through the loss of my breast, the horror of chemo, going bald and the pain of radiation without going completely bonkers.

5. What are you overly obsessed with? i.e. food, clothing, books, places etc.?

Definitely food! I'm always thinking about it...always planning the next meal...obsessed with farmers markets and River Cottage/Jamie Oliver/Heston Blumenthal/Nigella Lawson foodie shows...love to eat, love finding fantastic cafes and restaurants and love to cook for others. Food....mmmmmmmm!

6. Worst piece of advice you have ever received?

Give your child a good smack when they're naughty.

I won't wax lyrical on my soapbox about this topic. My opinion is that I find a great deal of hypocrisy in the act of smacking a child. Particularly in situations when a child is being smacked for hitting another child. Do as I say, not as I do? 7. What is your favorite book?

I have two and one is just as wonderful as the other:

Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice and Oh the Places You'll Go by Dr Seuss

8. How do you spend your free time (if you have any)?

Hand making gifts & jewellery, enjoying a quiet coffee in my favourite cafe and reading British Country Living magazines.

9. Describe your most embarrassing moment?

Has to be face planting in the sand as I parasailed on to the beach in front of a huge boatload of tourists. The applause was awesome but my 15 yr old self wanted to die of embarrassment.

10. Give one tip for fellow bloggers- something you have learned.

Don't try and keep up with the Joneses...be yourself, blog about the things you're passionate about.

Ok so the five fab nominees are...(cue drum roll)

Matt @ Dad Down Under

Kate @ It Started In New York

Anna @ Fields of Sage

Israel @ Stark Raving Dad

Janey @ Is That You Darling
